Seabirding (pelagic) trips
The Seabird Trust is now running the Pterodroma Pelagics Hauraki Gulf seabird trips (formerly operated through nzseabirds.com). We are the only locally-based operator for seabird trips in the region.
We know our birds!
These day-long pelagics operate from either Sandspit (small harbour near Warkworth, 50mins north of Downtown Auckland) or from Marsden Point Marina, Whangarei Harbour.
Not only will you get to see the seabirds and marine life that make the Hauraki Gulf and northern New Zealand so special, by participating you will also be supporting our research programme.
You also have the opportunity to meet people involved in seabird research in our region.
2 January 2020 (2 spaces available) - Sandspit departure
16 January 2020 (spaces available) - Marsden Cove Marina (Whangarei Heads) departure
6 February 2020 (spaces available) - Marsden Cove Marina (Whangarei Heads) departure
* We are setting more dates for 2019-2020. If you are travelling from overseas and keen to do a trip let us know dates that would suit you. We can post here and see whether it is possible to get more participants.
Cost: Full day rate - NZ$350 per person (a 3% surcharge applies to all credit card payments)
With each trip we contribute to an at-sea sightings database. This dataset started in 2003 has been used for a number of analyses including Hauraki Gulf Spatial Plan (SeaChange)
